The India Times’ “Economic Times” section reports that Installation art is gaining popularity in India. The article is vague on the details of this trend but notes several artists—some new, some established—who are experimenting with installation. Satish Gujral, for instance (that’s his work above) , although Gujral’s website makes no mention of any such work.

The The India Times’ article does not, shall we say, have an in-depth grasp of Installation art, which it describes as

“a combination of paintings, sculpture and, sometimes, objects from everyday life”

and which we will resist calling Quaint (we’ve all read our Orientalism, no?)

Are there exciting things happening in the Indian Installation scene? Has anyone seen any pieces up close?
