OK, so just a few days ago we were asking about new Indian art, and what Indian art is like right now. Well, on March 1, there opened at the Asia Society in New York a show called “Edge of Desire: Recent Art in India,” and another exhibit at Queens Museum of Art called “Fatal Love: South Asian American Art Now.”
On their website for the show, The Asia Society’s Museum Director, Melissa Chiu, says that
“The artworks in Edge of Desire challenge preconceptions of contemporary India, whose presence in Western culture is often limited to Bollywood, yoga and outsourcing.”
And damn if they don’t have two full galleries of Indian contemporary pieces in the show, right there for you to go and see up close.
The New York Times Review, below, points out the highlights.
